Setting up Flashforge Creator 3

At first appearance, the Flashforge Creator 3 appears to be quite tiny. It adds a wonderful touch to the office without taking up too much space. 

Yet, the total construction space is substantially bigger than other comparable 3D printers. This allows for more efficient space utilization. It’s also made of a solid metal frame, which ensures that the prints are stable and of high quality. 

The translucent plexiglass doors let users see the jobs, while the enclosed space preserves a perfect temperature.

The setup procedure may be difficult and consume a lot of one’s time. But much of it can be done and monitored using the touchscreen as well as the Flashcloud application. The camera and Wi-Fi has to be set up, the material must be loaded, and the bed needs to be calibrated.

Although the camera is in a good position, setting it up can be the most difficult aspect of the procedure. It’s very useful to monitor and use once the camera is properly set up.

Although it takes some expertise, the HD Touchscreen will help guide users through the entire process.

The touchscreen also directs one to move the dials on the interior of the printer for print bed calibration. The entire process takes roughly a couple of minutes to finish. 

Before each print, a check of the calibration status makes sure the bed is correctly leveled.

On the Z-axis, there’s also a button for troubleshooting issues. Although this is helpful, it would be good to have the printer fix itself rather than requiring more user interaction.

Few more minutes for Wi-Fi setup, following which one can transmit files directly to the printer from the computer. 

One can also have the USB memory stick load the print input files though it is not as convenient as with the Wi-Fi

Software Applications

The Flashforge Creator 3 uses the proprietary FlashPrint software. It’s simple to use for beginners. Yet, it is powerful enough for advanced users to produce complex jobs.

The slicer application has menus which are well-organized and easily identifiable. The left side buttons provide easy access to functions such as rotating, cutting, scaling, and relocating.

After one has loaded and positioned a design, they will need to select the support options for the prints. Create a custom support placements or let the system do it by itself. One can also add or delete support manually. 

After the print design is selected, one can choose from different print functions. These include speed of printing, type of material, resolution, temperature, and retraction.

Though not open source, FlashPrint’s easy to navigate functions makes it one of the most user-friendly slicing software available.

Print Performance

The print quality shows that the X-Y axes find it difficult to replicate the very same print exactly every time. Yet, the retraction abilities are flawless. Every print is of the highest possible quality.

If one really wanted to put this printer to the test, then try printing very complex objects without support. One will notice a very slight amount of stringing that could be quickly cleared.

The prints will be practically faultless if one uses the proper supports. Even with not so reliable and sensitive filaments, surfaces remain flawless and smooth. But, some parameters may need to be adjusted to get it perfect.

Final Verdict

The Flashforge Creator 3 is not without defects. It has its own set of constraints, as with any other 3D printer. Yet, given the pricing, it is safe to state that it is one of the few printers on the market that can print on ABS, ASA, PLA, Wood, PCM PETG, and nylon.

Polymers are also known to print well with the Flashforge Creator 3. The setup aspect of this printer is where things become complicated. But, Flashforge’s touchscreen interface is ready to walk one through the setup process. This it does by prompting to press the appropriate buttons.

And it is hard to overlook that the IDEX model is the USP of the printer and also a valuable source of training gear for students. Professionals will enjoy experimenting with the tool and saving time.

After working with a variety of other open-source slicers, the printer’s slicer is a delight to use.

Overall, this 3D printer is unique in that it caters to all levels of 3D printing competence, including novices, enthusiasts, and experts.
