ELEGOO Neptune 2 FDM 3D Printer has Silent Motherboard, SMPS safe power supply, Removable Build Plate and Power Failure Print Resume functions. Read our detailed review.
Elegoo Neptune 2: Product Overview
Elegoo, known for its desktop resin 3D printers, and has released a new FDM 3D printer. It’s called the Elegoo Neptune.
Elegoo’s Neptune 2 takes an old model and tries to freshen it up for a new audience, much like a trope-filled sci-fi serial. The inspiration is the Creality Ender 3, which serves as the foundation for a slew of low-cost 3D printers introduced in recent years. The fact that it’s super cheap, simple, and available adds to the freshness. Ender 3 was that when it was released in 2018.
One needs to see what the Elegoo Neptune 2 is all about. Is getting an update in enough places tempt users to consider it over its muse!
Elegoo Neptune 2: What exactly is it?
A quiet motherboard, safe power supply, print resume feature, FMD 3D technology, and a changeable build plate are the key aspects of the Elegoo Neptune 2.
The print size is 220mm x 220mm x 250mm. It works with different types of filament material, including PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, Marble, Wood, and so on. This is what makes it so endearing to creative 3D printing enthusiasts.
Elegoo Neptune 2: What is enclosed in the box?
The Neptune 2 can be unboxed easily and one can start printing without a fuss. The packing box is cute and small. It is layered using foam from the inside protecting the items inside. The main task is to build the frame and get together the X-axis gantry.
The largest item that came pre-assembled from the manufacturer, the base unit may not be fixed properly. The X-Y Axis wheels can also be loose. Thus, as expected from a budget printer, the owner will need to figure out how to get the printer assembled shipshape to print some cool 3D models.
Even then it should not take more than 60 minutes to figure it all out using the not-so-cool instruction guide. Let’s look at what comes in the box.
- 1 x Elegoo Neptune 2 3D Printer.
- 1 x Build Platform.
- 1 x SD Card Disk (Micro SD).
- 1 x Scrapper made up of metal.
- 1 x Scrapper made up of plastic.
- 1 x User Guide.
- 1 x Extra screws.

Elegoo Neptune 2: Features and Design
a. Excellent industrial design:
The use of CNC – constructed aluminum extrusion and semi-assembled components is often done.
They provide dependable build quality and are easy to install. The V-guide roller of POM material is from Germany. With the ultra-quiet operation, precise motion, and good wear resistance for long-term printing. Printing size: 220X220X250mm with 0.1mm precision. It also facilitates the use of several extensions.
b. Smart 3D printing:
On print completion, the temperature of the nozzle falls below 50°C, the nozzle’s cooling fans and the motherboard stops working. This saves power and extends lifespan.
The printers also can resume printing from a paused position after a power outage or incorrect operations. MK8 extruder has wide material compatibility and equipped filament detection
c. A power source that is both safe and reliable:
Short circuits, excess voltage, and under-voltage situations are not major issues. A 400W switched-mode power supply is available. It safeguards your printing from threats.
The 250Watt hotbed can heat to 100° Celsius in 3 minutes at room temperature. It maintains that temperature to meet the needs of various filament materials.
d. Intuitive and user-friendly experience:
A sample of the model and real-time printing progress displays in the Multi-language user interface. Leveling is easy with large rotary nuts. The hotbed contains a removable fiberglass layer with a matte Polycarbonate surface. It offers better adherence and makes it easier to remove models.
There is a TMC2225 silent driver on a 32bit motherboard. It ensures more silent printing at a noise level of 50db and continues to print consistently for 200 hours.
e. Quiet Operation:
The Neptune 2 has the Midas touch when it comes to silence. Its motors aren’t exactly silent, but they’re close. It was quite silent. Cooling fans that aren’t silent, as is customary, ruin all this. One can focus on work while in the same room as the Neptune 2 without it attracting too much notice.
Turning off the printer’s fans when the hot end temperature falls below 50 degrees Celsius, Elegoo goes a step further.
f. 32-Bit Mainboard:
The Elegoo Neptune 2 comes with a 32-bit Robin Nano V1.2 mainboard. This board has enough headroom to incorporate extras. Like BLTouch auto-bed leveling probe to drive the printer’s three axes, extruder motor, switches, quick heating 24V hot end, and hotbeds.
g. Build Volume:
The Elegoo Neptune 2 has a print volume comparable to the Creality Ender 3 at 220 x 220 x 250 mm. This is typical of printers in this price range.
The Elegoo Neptune 2’s hot end and heated bed can achieve temperatures of 260°C and 100°C.
It is hot enough to print PLA and PETG.
i. Filament Sensor:
A filament-out sensor mounts alongside the MK8-style extruder. When it senses the absence of material, this small black box will pause the print. It is useful for long-distance printing that you can’t track.

Elegoo Neptune 2: Price and availability:
The Neptune 2 is a once in century deal when it comes to price. The cost is between $150 and $170, and even at that high end, it is worth it. In a hobby segment where the best filament printing equipment may cost upwards of $80 or more, investing $170 on a full machine is an impulse buy for most people.
Yet, despite how eager one is to buy the Elegoo Neptune 2, it is not available for sale due to low stock levels. Elegoo claims to be working to increase stock globally but has yet to succeed.
Elegoo Neptune 2: Why to buy it?
In favor of buying:
- If one is looking for a unique way to express oneself, this is the book.
- Someone is new to 3D printing and wants to expand one’s collection.
- To people in search of a print farm.
Not in favor of buying:
Someone looking for a unique way to express oneself, this isn’t the product for you. If upgrading is an issue and wants to keep it as simple as possible.
Elegoo Neptune 2: Final Thoughts
