Is Filament Dry Box Is Essential for PLA?
When using PLA, it’s not necessary to use a filament dry box to get an optimal print quality. However, there are chances of print failures, zits/blobs when PLA has high moisture in it due its hygroscopic nature.
PLA filament drying can revive its original characteristics such as bendability even after exposing to moisture for months. This allows the PLA to pass through a bowden tube without breakage.
The quality of the PLA filament determines how much moisture it absorbs and most of the time drying is not needed for high quality PLA. But drying the filament using a dryer/oven/ dehydrator can greatly improve the print results.
Be careful while using the oven as temperature may go beyond the filament melting value and spoil it.
The moisture absorption of PLA is also dependent on the climate and the humidity in the environment. Some places have higher humidity which demands the need for a Filament Dryer.
