a. Beautiful Casing

On first looks, the Artillery Hornet has a classy look. With bright yellow color, it makes a pretty picture in comparison to competitors. 

b. Aerospace Type Connectors

On the Artillery Hornet, it appears like Artillery opted to use some aviation grade connectors. They’re nice, tidy, and durable, with a low chance of coming undone. They may, unfortunately, raise a problem during maintenance.

Because the hot end can’t be attached without the pathway for the filament, it’s not possible to pull it from the cold. This makes it certainly more complicated for diagnosis with the cabling. They do appear attractive though.

c. Ruby Mainboard from Artillery

The Artillery Hornet’s Ruby 32-bit mainboard certainly stands out in terms of the technology projection. 

Artillery always had a goal of manufacturing its own motherboard since it started building 3D printers. The mainboard and stepper driver work hand in glove, resulting in silent printing. 

Artillery also sells replaceable 8-bit Ruby mainboards for its other printers. Hence, it considers this board as the correct path to take for its future products.

d. Construction Space Average but Delightful

The Artillery Hornet’s build space measures 220mm x 220m x 250 mm. It is exactly what one finds in a modern machine on a budget. It comes quite close to the Genius from Artillery and Ender 3 from Creality. 

The build plate can warm up to 140°C and is in-house developed by Artillery. The company does not claim to offer a faster heating plate, as its heating power is shifted from AC to DC. Still, it offers sufficient heating.

e. Correct Holder for Filament

Unlike the unpleasantness associated with the filament holders on the Genius and the Sidewinder X1, the one on the Artillery Hornet may not be something special and yet it is right on the target.

f. Easy to Handle Hot End

In a fairly good amount of time, the low-weight hot end reaches 260°C. Deconstructing the Hot End was simple. This made replacing the contact PTFE a breeze. That’s good, because the cable might make cleaning difficult.

g. Titan Extruder of Bowden Class

The Artillery Hornet 3D Printer, unlike Artillery’s previous devices, uses a Bowden extruder. There may be some issues with filament pathing concerns, due to the space between the hot end PTFE. Yet, extrusion was otherwise consistent. It’s impressive that even flexible materials performed well.

h. Rotary Knob with LCD User Interface

To start with, Cura is a quick and user-friendly slicer that offers a smooth experience with 3D printing. It allows one to spin, change, and print models with a single click. It also creates supports and tweaks complex print settings to make the machine work better.

Another useful slicer for the Artillery Hornet is Simplify3D. It allows one to toggle between several printers and simulate test prints. Thus help find design faults before starting to print.

a. Printer Enclosure

This completely metallic hotend can reach temperatures of 285°C. It offers more material flexibility, allowing users to print Nylon, ABS, PC, and models using PEEK.

Beware that this sort of hotend will put extra strain on the printer frame, making PLA printing more difficult.

c. Probe from BL Touch

This probe for precise and automated bed leveling is another important update for the machine. Users will need to mount the BLTouch and link it to the extruder before using it.

In essence, the sensor notifies your 3D printer of the correct position of the print bed. This resolves a variety of adhesion and quality problems caused by incorrect leveling of the print bed.
